Leaving Spectora without rebuilding a single template

Nobody stays on inspection software because they love it. They stay because of the templates. Years of comments, tuned section by section, in the exact words you want in front of a client. The thought of rebuilding that is what keeps most inspectors where they are.

So when we built Magnify's Spectora import, the rule was simple: bring everything, rebuild nothing. Here is exactly what that means — including the parts that need a second look.

Two different jobs

Switching is really two moves, and you can do them separately.

1. Templates. The thing you can't work without. This takes minutes.

2. Everything else. Contacts, services and inspection history. This takes longer, runs in the background, and you can do it after you've already started inspecting in Magnify.

Templates: minutes

A guided wizard signs in to your Spectora account, lists your templates, and you pick the ones you want. They arrive with their structure intact — sections, items, and the observations under them.

Your Spectora credentials are used in memory for the import and are never stored. If you'd rather not sign in at all, you can import from a Spectora template export file instead.

Open one, skim it, run a practice inspection on your own house. That's the afternoon.

The full migration

When you're ready, the migration streams three things across, with a live progress bar for each:

• Contacts — clients and agents.
• Services — what you sell and what you charge for it.
• Inspections — your history, linked back to the contacts and services they belong to.

We built this against a working inspection company's real account, not a demo: 1,109 contacts and 3,346 inspection-to-service links came across in that run.

It is re-runnable. If it's interrupted, or you add records in Spectora while you're still winding down there, run it again — it picks up what's new without doubling what's already in.

What needs a second look

We'd rather tell you now than have you find out.

Duplicate contacts. Years of data means the same person entered twice — often once as an agent and once as a buyer. After the migration, the agent finds them by matching email addresses and walks you through merging them. It shows you each group; you decide.

Near-duplicate services. "4-Point Inspection" and "4 Point Insp." are the same thing to you and two things to a database. Same treatment: the agent flags them, you pick the keeper.

Inspector assignments. On multi-inspector teams, older inspections sometimes arrive without the right inspector attached. There's a reconcile step for that which doesn't need your Spectora login at all.

None of this blocks you from working. It's housekeeping you can do over a coffee in week two.

What we don't do

Spectora only. We haven't built importers for other platforms, so we don't claim them. If you're coming from somewhere else, ask us on a walkthrough and we'll tell you honestly what it would take.

How to run the switch

1. Import your templates and do one practice inspection.
2. Do your next real job in Magnify. One is enough to know.
3. Run the full migration once you're sure.
4. Let the agent walk you through cleanup when you have twenty minutes.

You're never in a position where the old system is off and the new one isn't ready. That's the point of doing it in two moves.
